A little bit about us
We have a nuerodiverse family including autism, ADHD, and food sensitivity. The boys are high energy and do best with someone who will find ways to make tasks fun with structured time. What works well in our house is a routine, setting plans ahead, and ensuring follow through. The boys do well with playing outside, swimming, and they love a Mario kart battle!
The boys are active in swimming, soccer, choir, basketball. They are particularly interested in science and weather and love going to the Perot Museum or a local park.
Someone who is a good fit here has experience working with school age children, is comfortable setting boundaries (ie time boxing, ensuring thorough task completion, food portions) and is willing to teach alongside the boys. We limit screen time, which can be a battle, and will expect that our nanny is also limiting his or her screen time while in the home. One key principle in our home is food is never a reward/punishment (ie dessert for behavior, take away snack for behavior). Our oldest son has a complex relationship with food and we need our nanny to support the healthy habits we are establishing as a family.
Responsibilities include school bus pickup, driving to extra cirrcicular practices using our vehicle, pool supervision/participation, basic meal prep and cleanup, helping develop and keep structures for boys (chores, homework, reading, laundry for children/towels, snack and dinner serving/cleanup).

How to Interview for After-School Nanny Jobs
Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here are some questions you should ask:
- What time is school pickup, and which days do you need care?
- Will I drive, and is a car seat or vehicle provided?
- How do you handle early dismissals and school holidays?
- What are the children's activities and routines?
- Is dinner or light housekeeping part of the job?
Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
