What Are Night Nanny Jobs?

Night nanny jobs are overnight positions caring for children while their parents sleep, often for a newborn. These jobs suit nannies who prefer working nights, have newborn care experience, or want a schedule that leaves the daytime free.

Types of Night Nanny Jobs and Responsibilities

Duties include overnight feeds, diaper changes, soothing, and sleep logs, and for older children, overnight supervision. Some jobs are a few nights a week, and others are full-time for the first months of a baby's life. Check the nights, the shift hours, and whether you are expected to stay awake or can sleep when the child does.

How to Interview for Night Nanny Jobs

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here are some questions you should ask:

• Which nights and hours do you need, and how long will the job last?
• Will I be awake all night, or can I sleep when the baby does?
• Where will I stay, and what is provided?
• How will feeding be handled, breast or bottle?
• How is overnight pay handled, and is there a written agreement?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
