A little bit about us
The role centers on three high-need windows: mornings (school prep), after school/dinner, and bedtime. During school hours, responsibilities shift to light housework — tidying common areas and kids rooms, occasional meal prep for kids, dishes, etc.
Andrew (11) has more significant support needs. He's verbal but has expressive and receptive language challenges, so clear, simple communication works best. He's generally easy going and self-engaging, but can become frustrated when he's left waiting for the next thing coming on schedule too long, or struggling to communicate. Andrew is a sweet and trusting boy, who has very simple interests like walking in the backyard, swings, and aimlessly hanging around grown ups. He will be home schooled this year, and staying around his teacher those hours.
Generally, he needs hands-on help with daily self-care but has the potential to build more independence with the right coaching, which we hope to achieve with group effort.
Victoria (7) has moderate support needs with a big personality. She can be funny, creative, and engaging — and she can also be strong-willed, quick to frustrate, and prone to dramatic meltdowns. She responds much better to humor and playfulness than to rigidity or confrontation. The right approach with her makes a huge difference. She is very curious and likes to explore arounds, inside cabinets, drawers, mixing stuff, and drawing. She needs more surveillance to keep her out of getting into all things.
All work around the kids will start as assistance to parents with the goal to build strong rapport and bonds that would progress into confidence and independent decision making based on kids' needs.
