More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have over four years of experience working with children, including infants and those with special needs. As a Check & Connect Mentor at NYU Langone Sunset Park AmeriCorps, I supported students at risk of disengaging, including an autistic child, which helped me develop strong skills in patience, empathy, and personalized care. Additionally, I served as a youth mentor for four years, providing guidance to children with diverse needs. With my background in Applied Psychology and minors in Child Development and Social Intervention at NYU, I understand child development and behavior on a deep level. I’m currently working on certifications in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and NY Peer Support to further enhance my caregiving skills. I love creating fun, engaging activities that foster learning and growth, from art projects to sensory play, and am dedicated to nurturing each child's unique personality and potential.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love creating a fun, engaging environment for children, focusing on activities that support their growth. For younger kids, I incorporate arts and crafts, sensory play with safe materials like playdough and sand, and nature walks or park visits to foster creativity and curiosity. Storytelling and reading sessions help build their imagination and language skills, while music and dance allow for expressive movement. For older kids, I’m happy to assist with homework, practice basic cooking skills like baking treats together, and encourage empathy through activities like making cards for family. I also introduce calming exercises, like simple breathing techniques, to promote mindfulness. My goal is to support each child’s unique personality and development in a nurturing, enjoyable way!
The most important part about being a nanny...
For me, the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, nurturing environment where children feel loved, supported, and encouraged to grow. It’s about building trust and forming a genuine bond, where kids feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring new experiences. Every child is unique, so I take the time to understand their individual needs and personalities, ensuring I can provide care that supports their development in the most positive way. Being a reliable and compassionate presence in their lives is my top priority.
My experience with special needs children...
I have hands-on experience supporting individuals with special needs across various age groups. Over the summer, I worked as a Check & Connect mentor, specifically assisting an autistic child by implementing individualized support strategies to enhance engagement and progress. Additionally, I have experience in adult autistic engagement, helping individuals build social and communication skills. As a youth mentor for four years, I provided support to students, including those with special needs, by fostering an inclusive, understanding, and structured environment tailored to each child’s unique requirements. This experience has taught me patience, adaptability, and the importance of empathy in creating a supportive environment.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments was when I planned a mini ‘adventure day’ for the kids. We started by creating treasure maps at home, and then we set off to the local park for a treasure hunt. Seeing their excitement and teamwork as they followed clues and discovered little ‘treasures’ I’d hidden earlier was incredibly rewarding. Not only did they have a blast, but I loved watching them build problem-solving skills and creativity along the way. It’s moments like these that remind me how fulfilling it is to create memorable and enriching experiences for children.
