Making sure the kids are fed, and their needs are met. You also want to make sure they are not just staring at a Tv the whole time. That they are having fun, and doing things they love!
My experience with special needs children...
My Sister has epilepsy, so I know how to deal with stressful situations like that. Now this is not special needs, but my other Sister has Celiac Disease, so I also know how to deal with severe allergies, like celiac which weakens the immune system.

I remember I was watching 2 kids down the street. The son did not want to go to bed at first. I finally laid him down, and red him a book. He was laughing and smiling, and I remember his mom told me they asked for me to come back.
