A little bit about me

My name is Abby! I’m a Journalist and Psychology student at LCC. I’m looking for a regular Wednesday through Saturday childcare position. Currently, I’m in a teaching position at The Douglas J Aveda Institute. I’ve been working a full time position for the last 3 years and need to find something a bit more accommodating to my school schedule. I am 31 years old, not a mother myself, but grew up in a military household where I had two siblings about 10 years younger than me and after 2004, my Father was deployed 4 times between that year and 2011. Since then, I’ve found myself in a couple full time childcare positions. I have experienced with special needs children, whether they have extra medical needs, emotional and physical. The most important part about being a nanny...

I think we don’t realize how intelligent children are, and it’s important to show them that. Speaking with patience and understanding can help them develop the emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills that can help them persevere through life. And also doing the dishes when they’re napping!

My experience with special needs children...

3 year’s experience working with Autism Spectrum students through the LINKS program. My younger brother has Autism as well. One of my longest childcare positions of 2 years, was with a boy about 2 years old. He is healthy now! But through those couple of years I spent with him, he was battling Leukemia. So special to see how he’s just grown up so fast. That was over a decade ago now.
