Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Baking and cooking is difficult with young children but it helps teach all ages important life sustaining skills, how to clean up after themselves, following directions, patience and encourages bonding. It's also very rewarding and creative because they get to create something on their own and also eat something. I love creating relay races and obstacle courses with whatever is available. I am sensory forward so I am all for playing in sand, sensory fidget toys, anything related to listening to calm, classical music or white noises preferably a rainforest thunderstorm. I love sport's and exercise, yoga included. I am also artistic so painting, and coloring is essential. I love kid friendly science experiments as well.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny should be to care. When working with children and families you need to have a certain level of empathy and compassion to succeed. Other traits and skills of a nanny can be taught but to truly care for children cannot be. Being a nanny should not just be clocking in and clocking out, it should be about being a part of the family as a resource to the parents and as a fill-in-parent to the children.
My experience with special needs children...
I have had experience with nonverbal children, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, ODD and autism spectrum disorder.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have two stories one heartwarming and one funny. Ask about the funny story when we meet.
As a therapeutic counselor I have worked with children who we saw consistently due to a crisis. One time there was set of 3mo twins, boy and girl whom we all were truly attached to. I truly loved them both, but the boy twin and I bonded. He was a good baby for other staff occasionally but sometimes inconsolable until I would come for him. When he heard my voice he would look around the room for me(their eyes were still a tad foggy) when he saw me he would either cry for me or he would laugh and smile uncontrollably. We would put his favoritism to the test multiple times and each time he would show signs of favoring me, he was my work son! I'd usually have to strap him to my chest to continue tending to other children. I will never forget those twins I still love them and their mother to this day loves me as well.
