I understand that with children the little moments everyday are what lay the ground work for success academically, socially and spiritually. I really take pride in putting my best effort into every minute spent caring for children. As a nanny, I also think clear communication with parents is very important. I like to understand the rules and values of the families I work for, so I can best support your work as parents.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked as an RBT at an ABA clinic for 7 months with children with autism. I really enjoyed it and found it very fulfilling. I worked with children at a variety of places on the spectrum. Some primarily worked on social skills while others also had adaptive and learning readiness goals. I worked with children with a variety of communication abilities. I am comfortable working with non verbal children and children with AAC devices.
The most important part about being a nanny...
With over four years of childcare experience in a variety of settings, it's very hard to choose just one moment. However, one that truly stands out to me was a client I worked with everyday in ABA. He was nonverbal and 5 years old (and the sweetest kid). We had worked consistently to teach him to wash his hands, and one day he did it completely independently. I loved getting to see his joy and getting to celebrate his win!
