The most important part about being a nanny...
is seeing the world through different eyes. Kids haven't been hardened by the world yet and they find so much joy in mundane things that I and other adults often take for granted. They're looking at things with a fresh perspective and I think there's a lot to learn from that. Helping them grow into people who will be kind and curious and brave is an important part of shepherding the next generation into the world. I think the learning runs both ways.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience with kids on the autism spectrum, kids with ADHD, kids with vision impairment, developmental delays (physical, social, cognitive), kids who are transplant recipients, and those who eat using a G-tube. I've spent time with kids with several levels of support needs and learned from each experience.
The most important part about being a nanny...
