More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a nanny since high school and worked full-time during my summers in college. I currently work at a relief nursery as an early childhood education specialist, providing transportation, cooking and meal planning, and working in the classroom. This is a full-time job, and we model a therapeutic approach which involves a low staff to child ratio and a very emotion-based learning approach.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing anything the child loves to do. I believe in letting chldren explore and take the lead in play. Outside of that, I really like to be active with children if they are able. I alwasy have a good time taking children to pools, museums, parks, going for walks together, and so much more. I also have a great time just hanging out at home and finding new ways to play and entertain each other, whether that be learning the ABC's, practicing crawling, or sitting and reading a book.
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, the most important part of being a nanny is making sure the family feels comfortable leaving their child in my care and that the child feels comfortable with me. I strive to provide the best care I can every day, allowing caregivers to go about their days stress-free so they can come home more ready for the next part of their day. I also believe it is extremely important to be present with the child and see every day as a new opportunity for connection, development, and growth. Trust with both the caregivers and the child is extremely important for creating a positive, comfortable foundation for everyone!
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children on the autism spectrum and those who have some cognitive developmental delays. I have also worked with young children with physical disabilities. I feel comfortable providing care when I am instructed on how to specifically help the child in the best way possible for them.

My name is Emily Hughes I'm 21 and I've been interested in working with children for a long time. when I was younger my goal was to become a teacher. Once I grew up I realized I liked being a babysitter more. I worked at a company called Centria Autism for around 6 months, I have my first aid and CPR certifications and I have experience working in high stress environments with children who aren't in the best moods. Im interested in being a nanny because I want to continue to grow and learn in this career field, I want to find the right spot for myself in childcare.

Full-Time Nanny Available in Portland, OR: Alexis R.
Hello! I’m an artist living in Portland. I am currently in school studying Somatics at the Contemporary Alexander School, which has among many things been a gentle reminder of how I can be more radically present in my life. I’m working towards being community oriented everyday. Nature is a huge inspiration for me, it invites so much exploration into my world. My long term goal in studying is to eventually work with people of all ages. Children especially! That being said, I’ve had a huge desire to expand my knowledge around communicating and crafting supportive and safe dynamics, all while maintaining a sense of playfulness. My approach to caring for children includes much of that. Listening, compassion and curiosity. I enjoy exploring creative ways to form activities. I’m passionate about finding ways to support children in leaning into their imagination and creating a learning environment. Looking forward to connecting!
