A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Amaya, and I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a strong foundation in child development, emotional regulation, and behavior support. I’m also a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), trained to work one-on-one with children, including those who are nonverbal or have unique developmental needs.

I bring a calm, attuned presence to my care and love helping little ones thrive through secure routines, sensory play, and early communication. One of my favorite tools is baby sign language, which I regularly use to support language development and reduce frustration during the early stages of communication.

My psychology background allows me to recognize emotional cues and create an environment that supports not just physical care, but meaningful social and emotional growth. I’m also happy to assist with light housekeeping and pet care to help your household run smoothly.

Feel free to reach out, and I will respond as soon as 24 hours!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

As a Registered Behavior Technician with a B.A. in Psychology, I’ve supported children in both clinical and home settings, many with developmental delays or nonverbal communication. I’ve cared for infants and toddlers by creating nurturing routines, using baby sign language to encourage early communication, and supporting emotional development through play and calm, responsive care. I’m also comfortable assisting with light housekeeping and pet care to help families feel supported in all areas.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy engaging children in activities that are both developmentally supportive and genuinely fun. With infants and toddlers, I love using sensory play, singing songs, reading books, and incorporating baby sign language into our daily routines to support early communication and bonding. As children grow, I enjoy arts and crafts, imaginative play, building games that encourage problem-solving, and outdoor activities that promote movement and exploration.

For older children, I like encouraging their independence and creativity through structured games, storytelling, journaling, and age-appropriate conversations that support emotional regulation and self-expression. Across all stages, I aim to create a safe, encouraging environment where children can be themselves, grow at their own pace, and feel seen and supported.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe children are sponges and they need to experience and learn to give positive energy to really flourish. Children are being exposed to environments that they should never know exist, and my protection is making sure that they are never in harm’s way. By supervising what their watching and regulating my energy to put a smile on their face.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve had the privilege of working closely with special needs children, particularly those on the autism spectrum and nonverbal communicators, through my role as a Registered Behavior Technician. My training has equipped me to support children with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs using evidence-based strategies. I focus on building trust, supporting communication (including alternative methods like sign language), and promoting emotional regulation in a safe, consistent environment. Every child I work with teaches me something new, and I approach each relationship with patience, empathy, and respect for their unique strengths.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was helping a toddler say their first word using baby sign language. We had been practicing simple signs during snack time for a few weeks, and one day, they signed “more” and smiled at me with so much pride. It was such a beautiful moment of connection, and it reminded me how powerful patience, consistency, and communication can be in a child’s development. Moments like that are why I love what I do.
