A little bit about me

My name is Amelia! I'm 21 years old, and looking for full-time summer employment. I'm great with kids, and have a social work and psychology background.

I'm currently in my third and final year at Chatham University, and I'm working to obtain a BSW. I have applied to the University of Pittsburgh, and hope to be accepted into the MSW program.

I'm currently interning at the East Liberty Family Center at the Kingsley Association. While at Kingsley, I will gain experience working with children and families. I will also develop my case management and event planning skills.

In addition to the experience listed above, I am also skilled at cooking, cleaning, and reading/writing.

I am happy to provide my background checks upon request. I have never gotten a speeding ticket, I do not have a criminal record, I have obtained an ACT 31 certificate, and I have my FBI clearance to work with children.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have babysitting experience as well as experience in childcare at the Kingsley Association.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy reading, coloring, and crafting with children. I also enjoy more physical activities such as dancing, playing soccer or basketball, and swimming.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I remember being terrified of my babysitters and preschool teachers when I was little. For me, the most important part about being a nanny is making kids feel safe. My goal is to make the time away from parents as enjoyable as it can be for kids.

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have a substantial amount of experience with special needs children, but I did work with some special needs children at the Kingsley Association.

I understand that every child is different. As a nanny, it would be my duty to get to know the individual child and see what works best for them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite moments working with kids occurred during my first week interning at the Kingsley Association. A little girl, around two years old, was playing with me while her mother received services at Kingsley. When I told the little girl I had to go, she frowned and crossed her arms. I didn't want to leave her feeling sad. I told her "thank you for hanging out with me," and shook her hand like she was just a small grown-up. That seemed to cheer her up a bit. It was such a small moment, but I think about her often.
