The most important part about being a nanny...
is the impact, influence, and reflection I have on the children. The family connection is also very important to me.
My experience with special needs children...
have been rewarding. It is important to observe first. Ask the loved ones of their needs/likes/ dislikes/favorites etc. Asks how they best communicate and respond to people/actions/behavior/tones/sounds etc. Find out if there are any triggers. I give the child time to adjust to my presence and energy. I may parallel play, read a story aloud but by myself. I have started off with winner tools sometimes....BUBBLES! Beaded Neclaces! singing songs made up with their names in it! I will sit and watch their favorite show and laugh/dance/enjoy it! Sensory Bottles! These have all been successful at making a NEW FRIEND! I understand that each person has their own personality and many has NO problem with letting anyone know when they are serious/upset/angry/ready to eat/drink/want to be alone/want to be left alone/ready to play etc. People with special needs do need that love and attention everyone needs with compassion, love, gentleness, creativity, patience, genuine and with a lot of SMILES!!!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I don't have a favorite moment rather than favorite times, memories with the children. My most recent nanny time was for 1.5yr and ended a few months ago. Two boys 7 and his 9 year old brother on the severe but colorful end of the spectrum. I love how much we learned each other & how he would like when I would sing. He would sing with me and I loved it when he would smile just that big! & laugh! He would jump on me when I was waiting for him to get off of the bus! He was excited to see his brother too & his brother was so patient and loving towards him. To catch those moments on camera helps me relive and be captivated any time I want. I also love the time with my granddaughter, who has a vibrant personality. She is funny and thinks that she teaches me all of my dance moves. Uh No... I'm doing it right! "No G-G. It's like this!" It's always been the moments, that stain my heart, with colors of the rainbow! I love those nanny moments!

Love this kids and the kids love me! I have been nannying for about three years now, as I have also had experience working in family childcare for over five years! Nanny or Nanny -share is definitely an option for me, as it can be helpful for developmental growth to be around other kids! After graduating college, playing Division 1 basketball and getting my feet wet in so many areas, childcare is always such a natural interest and doing for me!
