Growing up, i spent a lot of time with my best friend and her autistic sister. All through grade school, I had a special needs friend who I mentored. And as a foster family, many of our placements faced challenges. My family has cared for and loved children born with neonatal abstinence syndrome, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, and being born with general addiction; My adopted 4 year old brother was diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome.
