More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
nursery school teacher, live in and live out nanny, school bus driver, Sunday school teacher, Girls Inc teacher.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I'm the outdoorsy type, so I'm happy to explore anything the kids are curious about. I believe strongly in learning through play.
I love board games. I think it's good to model winning graciously and losing with dignity. Sometimes to be silly I'll ask kids if they'd like me to be a sore loser- then I'll flop around and pretend to have a tantrum. Kids LOVE it.

The most important part about being a nanny...
is making sure your child feels safe, respected, and loved when you are away. I will always make sure your child knows that they need to tell you anything that happens. For example, I accidentally gave a little boy I nannied for caffeine! We were at a pizzeria and choose what looked like a fruit seltzer drink. While we were eating and drinking we read the label and saw the caffeine! (I will NEVER make that mistake again!) I told him we had to tell mom when we got home. He was so excited to tell mom I gave him caffeine!
When it comes to meal time, it's important to me it's enjoyable. I will not force a child to eat past the point of fullness, or force them to eat a food they do not want. Children usually need to be exposed to a food many times before they feel safe trying it. I respect that.
One thing I like to do with kids is show them my plate and say "Is there anything on my plate you'd like to try?" This makes trying a new food a very low stakes game.

My experience with special needs children...
Children with Down Syndrome, GAND, and autism.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One day a little boy I nannied for asked me, "Anne Marie, do we have time for nonsense?" I realized he was remembering the times we were in a bit of a hurry and I said "we don't have time for nonsense."
