I've been babysitting for about five years, worked as a nanny for a year, and have over three years of experience in professional childcare settings. I also volunteer in Sunday school and serve as a team lead at my current job in daycare, which has really strengthened my skills in patience, creativity, and responsibility!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some if my favorite activities to do with kids include outdoor play like going on walks, playing at the park, or doing sidewalk chalk. I also love doing crafts, reading books together, and creative imagination play. For older kids, I enjoy helping with homework, playing board games, baking simple recipes, and doing fun science or art projects. I try to plan activities that match each child's age and interests while letting the child have creative control in a responsible manner.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have formed so many incredible bonds with the kids that I have taught, babysat, and cared for over the past years. It is hard to pick just one favorite moment over the past years. When I first started working with kids, I started out volunteering in a kindergarten classroom at my church. The first week those kids were so scared and nervous. They were in a new environment with new people and they weren't sure what to expect. Neither did I. Now those kids are 3rd graders! I still see a handful of them and teach some of them during services. The bonds I have with them are so special to me. They love to tease me but they also confide in me. It will be really hard to leave them when it's time for me to go to college, but I know there are special kids in Johnson City for me to grow bonds with as well. And I absolutely can not wait!
