A little bit about me

I am Ashley, or Ash the Flash, the scarlet speedster! I have been working with children for over 4 years and can say I truly have found my passion. I have earned experience through youth coaching, before & after school program management, as well as crisis intervention and de-escalation skills in residential and individual childcare. Although my main experience is in working with groups of 5-60 kids/students, I pride myself in connecting with each individual in an intentional and proactive way. Creativity flourishes and grows when a child's unique potential is cared for and nurtured.

Outside of my work with youth:
I currently am working on my undergrad in Elementary and Special Education, paired with Social Work.
I find love and joy in the outdoors, art, music, staying active, and most importantly... learning!

The most important part about being a nanny...

What matters most to me is relationship building. There's a quote from my favorite book that says, "the problem isn't growing up, it's forgetting." ...and that's a lesson I relearn each time I meet a new child. Even all grown up, each time I meet and work with a new child, I remember what it is like to be a kid and have a mind full of possibilities. And it is through that lens that kids feel empowered, heard and seen. And because each mind is so unique and of their own, each relationship built feels unique and one of a kind. I am learning from them just as much as they are learning from me.

My experience with special needs children...

as a residential counselor, I worked with special needs children who were experiencing IDDs, TBIs, and other mental health related backgrounds. I am an individuals who has experience de-escalating during explosive reactions and difficult episodes of crisis. Although I am trained to be hands on during these moments I also aim to use therapeutic techniques first above all else, and always ensure that my role in the life of a special needs child is to create a safe space in a world that may feel like a lot in the moment. I am the residential counselor they send on field trips and sports related outings with these children because of the success seen with creating a safe environment where they can feel good and happy instead of triggered and escalated.
