You have to understand the child. The world is so overwhelming and confusing for a kid that all they can do is cry and scream as they don't know how to react. So it's important to try your best to understand what it is their truly feeling in order to acknowledge and comfort them.

I was given a red heart keychain that was made of air dry clay for mother's day. I asked the child why I was given this as I am not a mother and was given the response of, " A mom is someone that makes a little kids heart warm, and you make my heart warm, so you have to be a mom." I felt so proud and embarrassed, I still have that keychain in my room till this day.
