When I had a break through with a non-responsive child. He did not talk to anyone expect his parents. I watched him and allowed him to just point to what he wanted. I have a little knowledge of sign language, so I tried it out and he signed back. Then, he proceed to ask how I learned and if there was someone close to me who was deaf. I think I gave him a sense of understanding and equality.
