Hi! I'm Ava Howgate
I'm 19 years old and currently home until January before starting at the University of Rhode Island. I absolutely love working with kids and have had many babysitting jobs over the past few years. I also gained experience as a helper teacher at the Newburyport Montessori School, which really deepened my love for early childhood care and learning.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, the most important part about being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, and happy environment where children feel comfortable to be themselves. It’s about building trust — not just with the kids, but with the parents too — and being someone they can count on. I think it’s also about tuning into what each child needs, whether that’s a hug, a giggle, or a calm routine, and doing the little things every day that make them feel seen, cared for, and genuinely happy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was simply spending a rainy afternoon building a blanket fort with a toddler I was caring for. We filled it with books, stuffed animals, and snacks, and they were so excited to have their own little space. It was such a simple thing, but seeing how happy and cozy they were reminded me that it’s the little moments—just doing things that make them smile—that matter most.
