My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for many children with a variety of special needs. When I was in high school I had received an award from the community on how well I worked with students with special needs. I also went to college to become a Special Education teacher. I have had experience working with children with special needs for 6-7 years. I nannied a boy with Autism for 2 years. I did therapy/behavioral sessions with him.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I nannied a 3 year old boy with autism. He did not know how to talk and only knew how to scream very loud. My ears would be ringing by the \end of day from how much screaming he was doing. He started to do occupational therapy once a week. I tried my hardest all day doing all different activities that I could think of to help him to talk and helping him learn the basics of asking for help and telling me what he wants. After a year of this hard work he began to start talking. He knew some sign language and most importantly he stopped screaming. I loved seeing how much he grew in a year. I am so proud of him!
