I think the most important part about being a nanny is being a friend. Being someone that the child/children can look up to and not be afraid to be truly honest with. The child needs to feel safe with you so that he/she can discuss problems if need be.

My experience with special needs children...

I have something called Ring 20 which is being controlled with medicine. My mother was a teacher for many years. I was her unofficial assistant teacher. But, because of this I have been around many special needs kids and have learned how to teach them.

I love it when you are with a child and all of a sudden they put their thinking caps on and ask you questions or surprise you with their smarts.
