I've raised 4 autistic/ADHD children. I've helped children use tools to express and regular their emotions. I can use play therapy to teach children to feel big feelings in a healthy manner.
I try to use two tactics with children struggling with anxiety; distract and feel. If the child is shutting down, we feel our feelings in whatever way they need. If the child is disregulated and expressing feelings physically, we distract until they can feel safe to feel and express.
