My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for special needs children both young and in teen years. One was completely handicap wasn't able to do much at all on her own and had trouble speaking clearly.. she also was very edgy so sometimes she acted out angrily becoming very stubborn. That takes alot of patience and keeping calm. The other child was not as severe but he used a walker to get around and I would spend a few hours throughout a day helping him with practicing walking on his own and other physical therapy activities that were needed to help him gain strength to be able to be more independent.
