I taught English in China, working with kids 3-6 years of age; I’ve been a nanny for 2 different families, a variety of ages (including infant care); I’ve spent summers teaching children swim lessons; I worked in a Daycare; I worked as a teachers aide in a Charter school; I am currently working as a Paraprofessional in a Montessori school.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy incorporating my love for creativity in the lives of the children I work with. I have been successful in having days completely lack screen time. Unless it’s cold, being outside is my favorite! Finding parks, going on walks, yoga, painting, bubbles, baking bread, learning early school skills, etc. I’ve always tried to fill our days with a good balance of playfulness, learning, and rest.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Making childhood fun again! I love being with kids, I see the light in them and they see the light in me. Working with kids has always taught me more about unconditional love and my ability to do so. Children are precious to me and I feel the gravitational pull is equal between us. I love seeing kids shine and figure out what drives them in life during this time.
My experience with special needs children...
I currently work as a Paraprofessional, at a school with a high profile of special needs. Most of my experience has been directed towards children with Autism, ADHD, ODD, with a few others minor limitations.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Any moment I witness a breakthrough with kids fills me; whether that’s just a mindset shift of “I can’t do this” to “I did it” or them demonstrating a skill we learned together; it just warms me up.
Another funny moment was during COVID—I nannied with a mask and when restrictions were less drastic, I was invited by the family to take my mask off. Once I did the 3 year old I nannied at the time told me “oh, Bryn! I think you should wear your mask again. I think you look better that way” it was hilarious!
