I majored as an English language teacher in my country (Colombia) and worked with a 12-year-old special need girl for a year and a half. I’m currently working with a beautiful 2-year-old kid that’s enrolling to school full time in February (which is why the family is letting me go).
I’m located in Centreville. I have babysat 4-month-old babies, twins and kids from different age groups.
Also, I’m vaccinated, CPR trained and non-smoker. I have a German Shepherd too so I’m dog-friendly.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Patience and understanding the child. Every single one of them is a different world and comes with different needs that I’m expected to meet.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with a girl with autism and ADHD for a year and half. We had to follow a behavioral plan and use effective praises with her since she was self-injurious and her meltdowns came as a way of gaining attention from her people. We had ABA at home everyday and speech therapy once a week. The child required a little bit of exercise daily: these could be walking, swimming or jumping in the outside trampoline. My tasks included meal prep, laundry, outdoor activities, lots of driving, potty training, etc.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It happened recently. My current boss was telling me they had to let me go because my kid would enroll to school full time. She’s only 2 and the other day, whilst saying goodbye, she looked at me, hugged me, laid on my shoulder and then hit me on the face with her teddy bear. It was a sad moment, then it was not. I laughed.
Another one happened when I was taking care of my special needs girl. She has autism, hence doesn’t tolerate physical contact. One night, when I was taking her to bed, she took my hand and placed it on her neck as to ask for rubs. I almost cried because it meant she trusted me. Since then, she went on to give me hugs and hold my hand. Adorable!
