A little bit about me

Hello! I was born and raised in Oregon! I currently live in Fort Collins, Colorado where I work part-time for a non-profit that supports unhoused youth. I don't have any kids of my own, yet, but I have five nephews and two nieces. I grew up around kids and spent my college years babysitting/nannying. Just like many west coasters, I love to be outside as much as possible: camping, hiking, running. I also love pilates and yoga. Some other things I enjoy are reading, writing and creating, and cooking.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Growing up as one of 11 children, caring for others was simply part of life. I continued that naturally with my sister's 6 kids, spending significant time supporting their care over the years. During college, I worked with a couple of families in a part-time capacity — caring for children ranging from infants to teenagers, with responsibilities including food prep, clean up, pick up and drop off, and light housekeeping.
Additional relevant experience includes serving as a daycare supporter at my church, where for about a year I helped run the preschool daycare program.
Honestly, I just love being around kids. Growing up in such a big family made time with children feel completely natural to me, it's always brought me alot of joy!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love taking children outdoors as much as possible — there is so much the natural world has to teach. Some of my favorite activities include trips to the park, walks, hikes, and playing sports together.
When the weather doesn't cooperate, there's still no shortage of fun. Building forts, baking together, reading, making art, and playing card or board games are all favorites. Honestly, there are endless things to do with kids, they are just so naturally curious.

The most important part about being a nanny...

What matters to me about being a nanny is creating this safe and welcoming atmosphere for the child or children you are taking care of. I believe in leading by example, and know that children are very astute and pick up on a lot of things. I believe in not just being there to watch over the children, but being engaged and present with them in a positive way.

My experience with special needs children...

I have personal experience with special needs care through growing up alongside my older sister, who has severe Autism, experienced daily seizures, and was nonverbal — requiring full-time care. Having a special needs sibling gave me an intimate understanding of what that life looks like, not just as a family member but as someone who participated in her care.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite moments as a nanny was when this child I was taking care of came up to me after school, and said, "Look Carmen, I made this for you". They had made me a colored Christmas tree with a bag of candies for Christmas and wrote a sweet note.
