A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Carrie. I bring over 25 years of experience working with youth and children of all ages, such as nannying for multiple private families, working for school districts, church programs, and previously practicing as a mental health counselor.

Currently, I also take care of my small farm and my aging parents, so my schedule will need to work well with yours. I am mainly looking for part-time, weekday opportunities as a nanny in the nearby towns of Concrete, Rockport or Darrington.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Alongside 13 years as a nanny for 7 different families working with infants through grade school, I also have the following experience:
1) Paraprofessional in three different positions for 9 years at Sequim and Mukilteo School Districts, ages 4-19
2) Youth and Children’s Ministry Programs, paid and volunteer for 7 years in Sequim, nursery through young adults
3) Dept of Education temporary 4 month position as Lead Assessor testing Elementary Students for Reading Assessment in 5 schools
4) Mental Health Counselor, 9 years doing therapy with all ages, including children and teens as clients

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Exploration walks, playground and play date times, reading books, telling stories, artwork, creating and playing, making food together, conversations, and helping with homework/learning are all fun ways for me to engage young people.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is intentional kindness. It must be the flavor they taste in their meals, the scent of it must be in the air as you engage in daily activities, and they must hear it in your voice and see it in your eyes. Kindness over time helps grow relationship, trust, confidence, safety and character.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked for 3 years in Sequim as a paraprofessional with highly challenged children from age four though 19. Most were non-ambulatory and could not feed or toilet themselves. I helped with feeding, toileting, integration learning time, OT and PT goals, IEP goals and positive learning and growing interactions.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I worked with two bright and creative siblings from infancy into grade school and over time we developed many stories about two ocean-living characters that starred in multiple crazy adventures (most of them off the top of my head as we were doing other things). They loved the stories, asked for them, and participated in creating them. One day I showed up in the morning and their dad happened to still be there before work. He asked where he could find the books about these characters’ stories because his kids wanted him to tell them as bedtime stories. I had to explain that I/we made them all up and his best course of action might be to have the kids tell him bedtime stories until he could tell them himself!
