More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I taught at a renowned private preschool, have privately tutored, and homeschooled my four children for a span of 30 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy sketching, reading, creating, communication, and movement with children. Sometimes, just simply going outside with a magnifying glass can be monumentally enlightening for both children and adults. I tend to play upon the the child's interests and strengths while offering tangential suggestions and challenges.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I try to envision the world through a child's eyes of innocence, as I attempt to help him/her navigate and/ or mitigate its dangers while enjoying its delights. There is an elusive, delicate balance of helping a child understand the dynamics of actions and consequences, as well as how one responds to incidents and accidents.

My experience with special needs children...

I have had connections with autistic children with varying levels of functionality. Namely, my son is on the spectrum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was doing an assessment of my student's knowledge of the alphabet. We pulled the letter "M," and my student could not remember the name of the letter. She mulled over it and noted that she should remember its name because her mother's name began with that letter.... Well, that confused me and caused me to instantly forget her mother's name, for I did not recall it beginning with an "M." My student continued to quietly snap her fingers in an effort to jog her memory until I finally had to relieve the utter misery for both of us. Thus, I asked her what her mother's name is, and she exclaimed, "Mommy, SILLY!" I laughed so hard at the notion of being called "SILLY" by my student, as well as my instant recollection that her mother's name is PAULA! Of course, I could hardly wait to tell Paula all about this anecdote that I still remember so vividly after so many years.
