More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a nanny in Seattle WA for a couple for who were an engineer and computer programmer. Also for a family of 2 doctors. In Park City UT, where I am now, I work for several families who are investors, psychologists, real estate developers. I have always worked in people's homes rather than in daycares/etc.. However, while my children were going to school, I volunteered in both of their classrooms, because I loved being with the school kids. I thought they were so much fun. I helped with math classes, and reading. In one class, I helped to teach ESL children their spelling words. I loved being in the classrooms!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love it when kids show me what they like to do! Each child has their own favorite activities, so I really gear play toward that. Currently, one little girl I take care of loves arts are crafts. Last time we made unicorns together using construction paper (and used lots of glitter), cut out snowflakes, then decorated them. A 3 year old boy I play with loves to make forts, play good guys/bad guys, shark infested waters, magna tiles, and legos. I also care for a 6 year old girl and her 9 year old sister. We play outdoors, read a lot together and do lots of arts and crafts. Then, I also currently watch (separately) 2 infant boys. One is 9 months old and the other is 10 months old. I spend most of the day on the floor with them, playing with their favorite toys.. I love all of the ages, but I think I'm at my very best with infants through 4 year olds. But I've grown very strong bonds with the 6 year old and 9 year old, who enjoy long conversations, tell me their kid problems. :)
The most important part about being a nanny...
I like knowing I can not only keep children safe physically, but also can make them feel loved, seen, heard, and feeling special. I want the kids to know that I'm there because I want to be there with them, and spend time with them. I want them to have fun and to feel safe. And I want the parents to feel like they can go and do what they need to do, without worrying about their children. That, hopefully, their children are happy to see me and look forward to their time with me. One of my families dad's always says - thank you for taking care of us all. That makes me feel like I'm doing my job right. It's not just about the kids but also the parents.
My experience with special needs children...
I don't really have experience with this.
The most important part about being a nanny...
So many moments, with so many kids. With my first nanny family, when they went on vacation for 10 days, the elder child (at that point almost 3 years old), was missing me a lot. The parents called and we talked on Whatsapp, and the child said she was missing me, but that she knew "you always come back". It was so sweet, and made me realize I was a special part of her life. I most recently have grown very close with sisters, 6 years old and 9 years old. They both share things with me that they are concerned or worried about, and I share that with their parents, so their parents know and can approach subjects of concern with their kids. I love that the kids feel like they can talk to me, but I want the parents to be aware so they can also help the children. But on a day to day basis, it really warms my heart when I watch children accomplish something, especially the little babies, and you can see the pride they feel when they can do something. I love seeing those moments of triumph.
