A little bit about me

I was told God didn’t give me my own family because I was put here to help others with their children. That it would distract me from those that needed me if I had my own. I was a live in nanny for 4 years right out of high school. My dad set me up with a colleague and his family. The boy was 2 and the girl was nearly 5. After that I worked for the wife’s friend who had odd hours being a RN and couldn’t find anyone that would start at 3 am. After the kids were older and could drive i became a veterinary technician for almost 8 years. I’ve spent the last 2.5 helping children in difficult circumstances. I.e. spousal abuse circumstances, addiction circumstances. I made sure they never felt neglected or anything but loved until their home was better. Much like my home was. Children know more than we give credit. Every child deserves the best the world can offer and they have to know they’re loved and supported. I will do my best to make every child I have influenced happy.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts/crafts. Teaching art. Reading. Games. Teaching them independence. I’m big on teaching them to express their feelings verbally; explaining how we can’t fix things if we aren’t told what’s wrong. I like to do group activities if it’s a multi kid home but then I like that individual activity where I can check in to make sure they’re doing okay and that they aren’t holding anything negative inside. Let them talk it out and get a positive solution. If it’s more serious then I will go to the parent for them to handle or suggest their child talk to them. I can’t talk to my own parents even now. It’s something I hold highly for other kids and their parents. They should know their mom and dad are their biggest supporters in life and they shouldn’t be afraid to keep anything from them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Knowing you’ve been a positive influence in a child life. Seeing that kid as a teen now and seeing how great of a person they are developing into.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve only had experience with children who have autism. From severe to mild. As a child, I was diagnosed with trauma, complex ptsd and severe anxiety and social anxiety. Children with behavioral disorders because of things they’ve been through I can connect with well.
