I have worked with kids of all ages in many settings across many years -- as a babysitter, nanny, playworker at a year-round fully outdoor preschool, theatre teaching artist, substitute with Chicago Public Schools, and teen dating violence prevention facilitator with middle/high schoolers.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to be outside in all weather, discover new plants and animals, explore art materials, do heavy-work play (very physical, pushing heavy things around), play games, build forts, read stories, put on plays. I try to balance connecting and being a part of the play with also stepping back to allow independent play and unbroken focus.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It is so rewarding to try to offer the environment to children that I wish we all had when we were small. Children are remarkable, unique, curious, and so fully alive - working with kids helps me to stay playful, be a better communicator, and to remember to see the magic in the world.
My experience with special needs children...
While I have not worked in special education-focused environments, I have worked with many neurodivergent children and am familiar with techniques and frameworks for neurodivergent and disabled children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I always love when we get to play for a long time with a silly and mundane object instead of toys. Like when we played with one single stick and 3 specific leaves outside for about 1.5 hours.
