More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

At the age of 11 I began the care of my newborn brother. At 12 I was the most popular babysitter in my neighborhood in Southern California (50 cents an hour!, $5 tips!) At 13 I was a camp counselor in my father's Summer day camp in L.A. I was in charge of 8 6-year-olds at Disneyland, as well as taught drama, crafts. swimming and games to all ages. When you give a child 'responsibilities', those experiences build confidence, strength and character. Also, I have successfully raised my daughter, now an RN.
I have taught at both the elementary and secondary levels for 26 years, directed 50 children's theatrical productions, tutored for several families up and down the coast and overseas, and enjoyed being a nanny, cook and housekeeper for families with infants to pre-teens. I may very well be the most experienced caregiver on this site! As you see, I do not lack confidence.. I will devote myself to helping you raise wonderful, respectful, smart children!..

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am an ACTIVE teacher, nanny and tutor. Children learn best when moving during the learning or the lesson. Most children (and all youth & adults) are visual, verbal, active learners! If you can create a way to move them...that's the best way to go. I offer creative dramatics, crafting of all kinds, exploring outdoors, indoor games of all kinds, (which I also encourage them to create), as well as cooking, sewing, planting, animal care, organizing their space, plus the joy of picking up, putting away their toys! I am also a writing teacher and can start them creating their first novel. Well, we'll start small first, and create an enthusiasm for writing, performing and self expression. I am also a speech teacher, and can help them learn to communicate well. I allow a short time on computer and watching a film, but Only if parents approve.

The most important part about being a nanny...

As a family's Nanny, I have been given a great responsibility. I must care for the emotions, the mind, and the physical safety of the child(ren). This is a gargantuan responsibility, as the experiences from the first 7 years of a child's life sets the tone for the remainder of their lives. My personality MUST be gentle, but firm; optimistic, with serious reasoning overtones depending upon the circumstances; and finally my observation & decision skills must be sharp, rational and brave. A family's nanny is a reflection of the parents/guardians that hired them, in that they must be on the same page in their interactions, consistent in their decisions, and ALWAYS LOVING in their demeanor.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experienced the loving presence of several mongoloid students, several spectrum autistic, Asbergers (performing in two of my plays),and finally I have helped to supervise para-educators in attendance with their 'complete care' children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There have been several actually:
Holding infants in my arms, singing and rocking them. Feeding 1 year olds who love to eat, and others who ate one blueberry at a time...ha.
Additionally, I took three - delightful 3-year olds on a brief forest nature walk, where they asked me, 'how to we go potty in the forest"? Being a backpacker of many years, I explained what to do. They became experts that day!
