More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am an experienced teacher, tutor, nanny, babysitter, adult caregiver, petsitter and house sitter. I have decades of experience in these fields.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading, Singing, Rhyming, Storytelling and Creating, Music Making, Dancing, Make Believe/Pretend, Jigsaw Puzzles, Seek and Find Puzzles, Flashcards, Card Games, Board Games, Arts and Crafts of all kinds (including geographical culture and arts), Teaching, Learning, Photography, Baking, Cooking and Food Creations, Red Light/Green Light, Hopscotch, I Spy (with my lil' eyes), Hot and Cold Game, Imaginative Adventures and Travels, Matching/Memory Games, Scavenger Hunts, Legos, Chalk Drawings, Building a Snowman (real and imaginative), Adventure Walks and so much more. Using our imaginations and creativity. Celebrating holidays and special occasions. My mindset is that of a teacher. It is built into me. It is best to get to know the interests and needs of the child/children and the family.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Understanding the needs and requests of and working with the family. Therefore, everyone is on the same page in caring for the child/children. Knowing the child/children. Routine. Manners. Following the household and family rules. Listening. Observing. Communication between family, child/children and nanny. Consistency. Having agreeable discipline plans for the different degrees of infractions or misbehaviors. Working with a daily activity journal or chart, giving stickers and/or drawing smiley or sad faces (whichever the situation, activity, behavior calls for) rewards.

My experience with special needs children...

Special Education Teacher and Assistant Teacher in public schools. Private Caregiver for special needs (physical, intellectual, emotional, psychological...all or a combination of two or more) infants through elderly adults. And even with pets.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Memorable moments...too many to mention. One that makes me laugh to this day, is when a 2 year old lil' girl told me she had a very important lesson to teach me. She said, "It can save your life." She explained that she and I were girls, because we had girl parts. She pointed out our girl parts on the both of us. We were fully dressed (just so there is no misunderstanding about that). She explained to me strangers, especially boys, are not allowed to touch our girl parts. She was so serious and told me, "I am serious. We need to be safe." It took everything I had not to chuckle out loud. I knew she was serious on this subject. I told her I knew she was serious, I would be safe and thanked her for the lesson. I knew it was a good lesson she had learned. The night before, her Momma had explained this to her. Her Momma said, once she explained this to her daughter, her daughter said, "I have to teach Dana this tomorrow so she can be safe." Precious moment!!!
