More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My mom has worked in elementary schools as long as I have been in public school. On my off days or half days I would spend all of my time in the classrooms. In these settings, I would come into contact with different kinds of children but I loved every bit of it. From taking kids to bathroom breaks to reading books and connecting with the kids when the teacher couldn't, I enjoyed their pure hearts. Some kids that people rule as "bad kids" are simply misunderstood and want someone to hear them. I also worked in the day care/nursery at my church. Aside from both of those, I'm also the family babysitter from time to time though out my little cousin's lives.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I absolutely love taking the younger kids to the park. I think it's really important that they get time outside and get some fresh air away from devices for a while just to see the world and run around and maybe get popsicles afterwards! I also love game nights and playing board games or puzzles that can challenge them mentally. That works for the younger as well as older kids. I know some kids aren't as open but especially with the older kids, talking to them about their days and giving them an open and comfortable environment is super important.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny to me is building that relationship and creating a safe space. I want them to have respect for me, yes, but that comes with them learning me as more than just an authority figure.
My experience with special needs children...
I do not have experience in this field.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment was when I took 3 of my cousins to the park (two girls, one boy). The girls loved getting on the slides and playing together. My boy cousin is a couple years older than the girls so he didn't really want to go play with his sisters. As the girls were playing, me and him sat and just talked. When talking to him I realized I was giving him room to be more than a big brother. I was giving him a safe space to be himself. In that moment he was just an 7 year old boy (at the time) that has someone to talk to. This memory tops taking them to the fair, our ice creme dates and big annual community events. I loved seeing all of them getting to really be themselves freely.
