More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

babysitting my younger siblings from infancy throughout high school (and some of junior high school), peer mentor at my college, Bigs program

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading, walks in the park/nature walks/beach if accessible and safe, going to the bookstore so they can explore books they like, ice cream/frozen yogurt

The most important part about being a nanny...

Listening is crucial! Kids are always communicating, even or especially kids who are disabled/differently abled, and it is key to always be ready to hear what they have to say to make sure they are safe! Of course paying attention is key, and part of that is listening for any changes that can be communicated to the child's caregiver

My experience with special needs children...

My younger sibling is Autistic/ADHD, so I am familiar with some coping styles, struggles with self soothing, emotional dysregulation/outbursts, overstimulation behaviors.

Melany A. - Seeking Work in Washington

Babysitter Available in Washington, DC: Melany A.

Hi! My name is Melany, and I’m originally from Miami, Florida. I’m spending the summer in Washington, D.C. for an internship and would love to help local families while I’m here.

I have a lot of experience caring for kids, especially through my own family. I have two younger siblings, including my 8-year-old brother who is nonverbal and autistic. I’ve helped care for him for the past seven years, which has taught me patience, understanding, and how to stay calm in different situations.

I’m a student at Florida State University studying Political Science and Sociology. I’m very welcoming, dependable, and easy to get along with. I enjoy playing games, helping with homework, reading, doing crafts, and keeping kids entertained and safe.

I’m also open to light housekeeping, meal prep, bedtime routines, and pet care if needed. I know how important it is to trust your caregiver, and I would treat your children with the same care and kindness I give my own siblings.
