Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I like going for walks, tossing a ball or frisbee, visiting nearby parks, and having picnics outdoors with kids.
I am a strong swimmer and can supervise at the pool as well as getting wet with the kids.
Making crafts, playing games, puzzles, and artwork with little ones are also fun activities. I love being creative and encouraging creativity in children.
Reading to kids, visiting the library, singing with them, or telling them stories that my own grandma shared with me as a child are some of my favorite things to do.
Baking cookies and preparing snacks together with children can be fun as well as instructive.
Teaching moments, where I have the opportunity to help instill values such as kindness, compassion, and generosity are also important to me.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Loving and nurturing children while helping to build their self confidence and teaching them to be caring and compassionate individuals.
Helping to instill good values and teaching by being a good role model.

My experience with special needs children...
I have experience with working with ADHD children. And I have also cared for young children with behavioral issues.
I like to focus on rewarding good behavior and use positive reinforcement rather than criticism and punishment.
I find that showing compassion and having a patient and calm demeanor helps tremendously when dealing with children who have poor impulse control.

The most important part about being a nanny...
A few weeks after I was no longer working for a long term family the mom contacted me to let me know that the 5 year old boy whom I had cared for from a newborn was having trouble adjusting and she asked if I could see him from time to time. He said he misses his Mimi and has to see you! Said the mom.
I was overjoyed because I was missing him also. Needless to say, I started getting him every 2 or 3 weeks and spending time with him. He is now 8 - almost 9 and My husband ( also known as Big Daddy) and I pick up him and his 10 year old sister every couple of months and spend the afternoon with them. They are our honorary grandchildren and we cherish the many special memories we have made with them.
Their own grandparents live in Ireland and they only see them for 2 weeks every year. Our grandchildren are teenagers and college students with busy social lives and little time for Mimi and Big Daddy. So it works out beautifully. God is good!
