The most important part is safety of the children, also making sure that you build a strong bond and trust with each child. Kids need praise for doing things right and good behavior. Positive reinforcement especially.

In high school, I did peer tutoring for learning disability and handicapped students including down syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism.
