I’ve babysat two children with Down syndrome, and a child who was autistic and nonverbal .

The most important part about being a nanny...

When I took care of two boys, who were 3 and 1 at the time. I had put the youngest to bed, and I had been told by their parents the oldest was allowed to stay up a 30 minutes later. I stayed up with him and we played with his blocks and I gave him a sippy cup of milk, after 30 minutes had passed I told him it was time to go to bed. I had gotten him all tucked in, and stayed with him until he had fallen asleep. I left once I was sure he had fallen asleep, and sat in the living room waiting for his parents to return home. It was dead silent, and I was occupying my time sketching, I heard a door open and shut, I looked up and saw the oldest was out of bed and making his way to the kitchen, I asked him if he needed water or the bathroom, and he informed me that he had forgotten to get ME a bottle of milk so I could go to bed, and he was adamant that I have a bottle of milk because it was my bed time too. Luckily, I was able to get him back in bed without too many complaints.
