A little bit about me

The sound of children's laughter is music to my heart! And it has frequented my life in many ways. With over 15+ years of childcare experience (from babysitting to short term nannying), four years as a high school teacher (ie: chaos manager), and 2.5 years working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I come with a breadth of experiences and skills. In all of these experiences, I have curated creative environments, whether coming up with science experiments on the fly, going on nature walks, writing stories, performing plays, or having an inflatable dinosaur costume ready at a moment's notice for belly-rolling laughter.
As a highly interpersonal empath, I naturally connect with children and bring a calm presence to the environment.

Currently, I am looking for a part-time morning nanny gig. I currently have a nanny job from 2:30-7:00pm on the weekdays.

I am first aid/CPR certified and have my own vehicle.

- 15+ years of babysitting and nannying experience
- 2.5 years working as a respite care provider for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (many of the skillsets are transferable, especially if working with children with special needs)
- 5 years teaching and volunteering in Sunday School classrooms (age infant -5th grade)
- 1 year as a youth leader

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing activities that create curiosity and imaginative play, such as the following:
- Age-appropriate science experiments
- Nature walks and playing at parks
- Cooking and Baking
- Writing and illustrating stories
- Listening and dancing to music
- Writing and performing plays
- Indoor camping - ie: setting up a tent indoors and pretending we are on an adventure
- Telling ridiculously long bedtime stories
- Exploring what sparks the interests of the children I care for

The most important part about being a nanny...

is being a calm, safe presence for children. This involves listening well, showing empathy, and involving children (as much as possible) in decision making so that they feel they have agency and a voice. However, safety also means having firm boundaries.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for a close family friend's child with autism and understand, to the extent I am able to, the unique needs around caring for a neurodivergent family member.
Additionally, as a former respite care provider, I have experience with wheelchairs, epilepsy protocols, and adaptive equipment.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Creating a book with a three-year-old. We went on a walk together and collected bits and pieces of nature then glued and taped them into a book. She was so proud of it! When her dad came home from work that evening, the whole family curled up on the couch and they read it together. Her mom sent me the picture afterwards. The confidence and delight on her daughter's face was priceless.
