Being able to help out families and giving the kids an individualized outlet for learning while having fun. Most of the time they don't even realize they are learning anything because we are too busy playing.
My experience with special needs children...
I have babysat a boy with autism over a summer, worked with the special needs classes from 8th grade through high school, and was a member and officer of my Partner's club at my school. We hosted the Area 10 Special Olympics every year.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was nannying a three year old at the time and I had been working with him on asking politely. I had gifted him a handmade dinosaur sign that I made in my woodshop and he looked at me and said "May I take it and hang it on my wall." My heart was so happy that he had been so excited about the gift, but also took the time to ask politely.
