Outdoor activities I enjoy are sand play, walking, park (swings/slides), zoo/aquarium, beach etc. each activity depends on the age and likes of the child I am watching or dependent on the center I am working at.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny to me is being able to use the skills I have learned to help a child grow and become an independent confident child. Helping them functions strengths and working through the things that they struggle with, encouraging them as they go. Watching them finally succeed in what they have learned/struggled with is such an amazing feeling.
My experience with special needs children...
My experience with special needs includes behavioral and sensory issues. An experience I had was with a little girl that had so much energy and didn’t know how to explain it as she was a preschooler. To help her figure out how her body was feeling. We used a system calls “how does my engine run”; Red meant I feel completely out of control with my body. Yellow meant I feel okay but not fully in control of my body. Green meant I feel completely in control of my body. This was a tool taught to me as a small child to help with my own sensory issues and it helped me in so many ways. I initially brought this idea to my supervisor and together with her parents we initiated this method with great success. To be able to help her and her family utilize this tool was such a great feeling as she was able to verbalize how she was feeling and learn the tools to help her gain control of her own body.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a nanny my favorite moment was with the infant I was watching. I began watching him when he was 3 weeks old. He was very particular with who he would not cry for and we had an instant bond. Favorite moments were winding down before bed. We would sit together reading a story while he cuddled and drifted off to sleep. These special moments will always have a place in my heart.
