More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have over 10 years of experience caring for children ages 1–10 in home and group settings. This includes long-term daily care for my bonus daughter from toddler to preschool age, managing meals, naps, potty training, and planning early learning activities. I have babysat for multiple families, caring for sibling groups, preparing meals, organizing crafts, games, and outdoor play, and maintaining consistent routines. In structured settings, I spent six years as a substitute dance teacher for children ages 3–10, leading up to 15 students in choreography, warm-ups, and team-building activities. I also volunteered at a church summer camp, supervising games, crafts, and lessons for ages 6–10, and with the DSBN Kids Cooking Program, where I taught basic cooking and kitchen safety in small groups. In every role, I focus on creating safe, engaging environments that encourage learning, creativity, and emotional growth while building strong, trusting relationships with children and families.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy creating engaging, age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, and fun. With children, I love doing crafts, storytelling, and imaginative play that sparks their creativity, as well as outdoor activities like park visits, nature walks, and active games. I enjoy supporting early learning through playful lessons on letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, and incorporating fine motor skill activities like building, drawing, or cooking simple recipes together. I also find joy in helping children build confidence and emotional regulation through positive reinforcement, calm-down activities, and opportunities for independence. Whether we’re dancing, reading, or exploring outside, I focus on making every activity both enjoyable and meaningful.
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, the most important part of being a nanny is building trust and emotional connection with both the child and their family. Children thrive when they feel safe, valued, and understood, so I focus on creating a consistent, nurturing environment where they can explore, learn, and express themselves. This means using gentle parenting strategies, supporting emotional regulation, and tailoring activities to each child’s interests and developmental stage. Clear communication with parents ensures we work as a team to maintain routines and reinforce learning at home. Whether it’s guiding a child through a challenging moment, celebrating a new skill, or turning everyday routines into opportunities for growth, I believe a nanny’s greatest role is to be a steady, positive presence who helps children feel confident, cared for, and inspired.
My experience with special needs children...
I have personal experience supporting a family member with high-functioning special needs, which has given me insight into the importance of patience, flexibility, and clear communication. While my direct experience is limited to this, it has helped me develop empathy, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt activities and routines to individual needs. I am eager to continue learning and expanding my skills in this area.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favourite nanny moments was with my bonus daughter when she was having a rough day because she missed her mom. I sat with her and asked if she needed a hug, gently rubbing her back while guiding her to take slow breaths. Once she began to calm, we did “birthday candle” breathing together, and I suggested we make a video for her mom. Her smile slowly returned as she decided to also create a drawing to send. It’s one of my favourite moments because she trusted me to help her regulate her emotions, and I was able to guide her through it using the same techniques I’ve developed in my Early Childhood Education studies—turning a hard moment into one filled with connection, comfort, and love.
