More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I volunteered at Denise Louie Education Center in Seattle as part of my Early Childhood and Family Studies course early this year. I worked with 1-3 teachers to help supervise both preschool and toddler classrooms. I helped with mealtimes, naps, different play activities (both indoors and outdoors) and other classroom activities. I really enjoyed my time there and hope to be working with kids again soon!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some of my favorite activities to do when I was volunteering were outdoors. I was always the one who would run around with the kids playing tag, pretending to dig for treasure, or continuously serve fake meals for the kids. Freeze tag and Red Light Green Light were major hits. Inside I loved seeing different crafts kids would show me and helping them build and create was always really enjoyable. One of my favorite things was talking to them either in the form of play with toddlers or verbally as they always surprised me with what they would say. With a babysitting position, I would love to come up with my own crafts to do, or to go outdoors and explore nature.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What mattered to me when volunteering was making sure that I was keeping safety in mind while also keeping a positive and healthy environment. Being able to help cheer a child up or care for them when they got a little cut on the playground is important for me because I want them to know I am there for them when they need help or for someone to play with and create a positive relationship with.
My experience with special needs children...
I am yet to care for children with special needs, but I am very open to learning and adding that experience to make my skillset more versatile.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As I am yet to nanny, my favorite moment when I was volunteering was one girl, who I had only known a few weeks, came up to me once and told me that she missed me and asked me if she wanted to play with her and her friends. I thought it was a very sweet moment and was amazed at my impact working with those kids even though I had not been volunteering for very long.
