The most important part about being a nanny...
Consistency! Consistency in routines, in caregivers and in rules/expectations. Routine is so helpful for everyone involved!
My experience with special needs children...
In high school, I was part of a group of students that paired up with students with special needs to give them the connect and social opportunities that they deserve. Our club hosted events and field trips for them to have opportunities to meet other people and try new activities. We also spent time in the classroom with them during the day, encouraging them with their schoolwork and taking them on walks.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite memories as a nanny was feeding a bottle to a baby before she went down for a nap. I had the baby in a drowsy state, lights off and complete silence moments away from falling when the older sibling came charging into the room with a karaoke microphone asking if we needed a song! For a split second, I felt frustrated because I was so close to having this baby asleep and had done everything right, but quickly I just smiled and thought what perfect timing that was. Clearly older brother was in need of some attention and perhaps one on one time via karaoke machine, which he received once baby fell back asleep!
