A little bit about me

Hi, families! My name is Emma and I'm a student at Columbia University studying Education and Political Science. I hope to one day work in Education Law, working to increase access to a high-quality education for low-income students.

I am enthusiastic, patient, caring, and fun, and I am passionate about working with kids. My experience is as follows: I've been babysitting/nannying for five years, and I've worked as a preschool assistant teacher for the past three. I've worked with all ages, from infants to preteens.

I am well-versed in developmentally appropriate sensory play for babies and toddlers, and will make my time with your little ones educational and stimulatory as well as fun. I employ a Montessori, child-led philosophy, and I believe in keeping screen time to a minimum and encouraging active learning through play. I am also infant/child CPR and First Aid certified, and have taken courses in child development and safety.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Once I started college, I began working part-time during the school year and full-time in the summer months as a preschool assistant teacher. Along with guiding the children through their days, I also planned and executed theme-based lessons and activities, often grounded in the Montessori philosophy.

Since I'm studying Childhood Education, I've also had a few internships at early learning centers, and I student-teach at a local elementary school. I've also began nannying: something I've found to be a true passion. I've worked with children ages 6 months-6 years, and have had virtually every responsibility under the sun, from potty training to meal prep to working on flashcards to hosting playdates. I've also recently started to work in my Church's nursery, watching the babies and toddlers.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

When indoors, I love to read stories, make fun crafts or do sensory activities, put on puppet shows, bake a fun new treat, sing and dance together, or play hide and seek. When outside, I love to explore all of the wonderful parks, museums, classes, playspaces, and shows our great city has to offer!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making connections with little ones, teaching them new things, and seeing the world through their eyes.

My experience with special needs children...

One of the children I nannied for had ADHD as well as a learning delay, and another one had a speech delay. Both were toddler/early-school age. I have experience working with them on early literacy, mathematics, and word production, and was often present for speech therapy sessions.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One super funny and sweet nanny moment was one time when the three-year-old I nannied for asked me to sit in the bathtub and sang the whole "baby beluga" song to me. I sang that song to her every time I gave her a bath, and it was so silly and cute that she wanted to do the same to me! :)
