A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Erin. I have transitioned to work as a nanny since February of 2023 and began work as a daycare teacher in late 2020. I have worked as a babysitter, daycare teacher, or nanny for children with ages ranging from 5 weeks to 11 years. I have managed both classrooms and home environments. My favorite type of work, though, is one on one with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked as a daycare teacher at two daycares in Champaign. First as a paraprofessional/assistant, then as a head teacher at Happi Time Day Care. In between I was a part time nanny and babysitter. Since working at Happi Time, I have made an exciting shift to work as a nanny. I have worked for multiple families including ones with newborn twins and a family with three boys under four years old. In addition to this I used to manage my church childcare (birth to 11 years old) as the supervisor and coordinator of the staff. I now babysit for multiple families from this church with family makeups ranging from one infant to a family with three tots and a first grader.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

My activities with children vary based on their age. With children aged 0-2, I provide a lot of comforting play (lifting, cuddling, reading board books). I also incorporate a lot of singing, sensory activities, walks, and art as early as appropriate in a child's life. As children get older I like to do art projects, practice letters and numbers, dictate and write stories, spend time playing outside, and sing and dance along to music. I believe for all ages of children it is important to do activities with toys, art, music, and literature. My favorite thing to do with children is sing.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is for me to provide a quality, educational, and safe experience to those in my care. I am deeply devoted to my families and I want to see the best for them and their children.

My experience with special needs children...

I have both hands on and educational experience with children who have disabilities or use medical equipment. I took the Parkland College special education course in fall of 2020. At my first daycare, I worked with a child who used assistive technology to walk and numerous children who had developmental diagnoses. I know some sign language (alphabet, numbers, and simple phrases that are primarily to do with talking to children). At my second daycare position I coordinated with other teachers, directors, and early intervention providers to care for and track the progress of children in the early intervention system (birth to three IDEA). Since then, I have been a nanny for a child who had a surgery early in life.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think my favorite nanny moment was with my first full time job. The baby was a little under a year old and she had just learned to stand. We were laying on the floor together. She stood up next to me so she was over my stomach and blew a raspberry into my shirt. It was a perfect imitation of how her mama and I played with her for her whole first year of life. A priceless moment to me showing just how much babies can pick up in their first year of life, even if we don't see it all the time.

I am currently a freshman in college figuring out which career I would love to do to helping children out, whether it is medical, schooling or taking care of them. I love being around children and watching them grow. In my family we have children with special needs and I have experience with them. I would love to gain more experience being around non-family related children. I am open to doing fun activities and taking them out to their extra curricular activities.
