A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Erin, I’m 23 years old living in Oakland California. A few things about me, i’m non-binary and go by they/them and currently work in special education as a paraprofessional. I live to dance, sing, and play with my dog Frodo. I’ve been working with kids for over five years now ranging from being a nanny, to choreographer and dance teacher, to science camp instructor and now currently assisting students who are on the spectrum or have disabilities in an education environment. My schedule is currently open all week due to school ending and summer break beginning so I’m out of work at the moment. More About Me

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy painting in creative ways like with plants instead of brushes, or using different materials like glue or shaving cream to make the texture pop. Since it’s Summer time, swimming or going to parks and playing games is something I enjoy and love to spend time outdoors. I grew up in performing arts so sometimes I’ve even put on plays or dances with kids and we presented them to the family.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Teamwork! I do bring a fun, welcoming, creative personality and treat children as young humans. But I always relay back to what I was told by the parents or guardians because they know their child more than I do. I like to have open communication with the family and hope that’s reciprocated if there’s any question, conflict or concern.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve worked about two years as a special education paraprofessional and currently going through the process of becoming a behavior technician. I’ve worked with kids on the Autism spectrum from Mild to Severe, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, and assisted nurses with medically fragile students. I would say I have lots of experience and I do enjoy working with children with disabilities, but also acknowledge that everyone is different and take that into consideration and try not to compare others.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Holding an 18 month year old baby boy in my arms rocking him to sleep after a long day of playing. Just such a peaceful and delicate moment that I think is so important that you can get to that level of trust and comfort with children.
