The most important part about being a nanny is making sure the kids feel safe to let their voice/feelings be heard. It’s important they feel safe and comfortable and that comes with allowing them to feel safe to be vulnerable and open.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One time, on my nephews birthday, my nephew came to me crying and hurt and couldn’t express himself effectively. I gave him space to feel his emotions but also gave him the opportunity to tell me what was wrong. He finally opened up and told me that he wanted to do a solo dance but nobody was letting him. I wiped his tears and told him that since it is his birthday and we are celebrating him, he deserves to have that special moment. So I came up with a plan with him. I put on his favorite song, paused it, announced to the whole party that I was welcoming my nephew to the “stage” to put on a performance. After everyone was watching, he came out of a room and it was the best entrance ever, then I unpaused the song and he danced by himself and everyone cheered him on! He was so happy, I was so happy and so proud that he spoke up and told me how he felt. That was so brave. I loved that moment & day :,)
