More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I am a previous and current part-time nanny to two infants, a boy and a girl. I also have taken 14 hours of PDIS Colorado Shines classes to become qualified as a daycare assistant teacher and have completed my finger printing with CBI. My secondary area of study for my B.S. is in Human Development and Family Studies. In college, I was a nanny for five years for a little girl I watched starting at 2 months old. I also regularly took care of my niece and nephew since they were born until they became old enough to babysit and stay home alone. While I am not looking to work with teenagers, I also have experience working in higher education for college recruitment, working with high school students and their families.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love having music on whenever possible, including children's music, classical, and music with a good strong beat that kids can move their bodies to. I like setup a pots and pans drum set. I enjoyed that when I was a kid. I like doing activities where they can utilize their senses, which sometimes means getting dirty a little with paint, dirt, and water. I also enjoy the nurturing side - a cuddle, rocking to sleep, giggling together, and just chatting. When permissible, I like going to library reading events and walks to get some fresh air and engage with others of similar age.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Enjoying the family and being able to provide them peace of mind while caring for the person they love most. I also enjoy helping with child development while playing. It feels important to be contributing to the process. I also find a lot of importance to keeping to the schedule that has been set for the child so that bedtime goes earier for all.
My experience with special needs children...
I do not have experience with special needs children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It's hard to name one because it's the little things I enjoy. Recently I was working with a child who is on the verge of standing and he pulled himself up pretty far and just didn't make it. He cried a second and then he tried again and I enjoyed that early tenacity in a 9 month old. He also learned the word "baby" and we had some sweet cuddling moments listening to lullabies while drinking a bottle before bed. Those are all the special moments for me.
